1. What is SPIKE all about?
Answer:

SPIKE stands for Skali Pioneers and Innovators in the Knowledge Economy. Generally, SPIKE involves a training and an apprenticeship program. The SPIKE training program aims to develop and enhance the skill sets of fresh graduates, unemployed graduates and interested individuals. The objective of SPIKE is to train the participants (SPIKERs) to be more employable and/or eventually become entrepreneurs. The program will train and prepare the future SPIKERS on the latest web technology including vital entrepreneurial and business skills.




2. What are the minimum criteria to join this program?
Answer:
The minimum criteria to join this program are a diploma or degree in the following fields:

 Information Technology (IT),
 Science Computer,
 Multimedia and Creative Design,
 IT Systems and Network,
 Business and Finance
 Mass Communication.

All participants will be required to sit for a Competency Test. Successful participants will then be interviewed in order to gauge the existing skill sets.

*(Schedule and location of the Competency Tests will be made available in the portal and will be constantly updated. The Secretariat of the program will also contact the participants, informing of the competency test schedule)


3. Can I still join the program if I am not from the above field of study?
Answer:

Yes, you can still apply. However, you will need to prove that you have the necessary basic skills by passing the Competency Test and Interview.




4. What is the difference between SPIKE and PERANTIS?
Answer:

SPIKE has established collaboration with the Biro Ekonomi Pergerakan Pemuda UMNO Malaysia. The collaboration program is called PERANTIS. PERANTIS is an acronym for ’Program Perantis Usahawan Techno Pemuda UMNO – SKALI. Through this strategic collaboration, a dedicated secretariat is formed to furnish any enquiries onto the program. The secretariat has also representatives at each state, should any parties have difficulties in contacting the Secretariat Head Quarters.




5. How can I register to the program?
Answer:

To register, participants need to submit an online application at www.spike.com.my or email spike@skali.net for more information. Alternatively, participants can also contact and submit a registration form to the Secretariat of the program. The Secretariat is located at the following address:

6. Can I register out side from my home state?
Answer:

Registration is online at www.spike.com.my. However, should you have difficulty in accessing the internet, you may contact the PERANTIS Secretariat located at each state.




7. Can I go to the Secretariat Head Quarters to register manually?
Answer:

Yes, any manual registration can be done at the Secretariat Head Quarters listed above. However, we encourage online registration.




8. Is there any payment involved? Do I need to pay anything before I join the program?
Answer:

All participants are required to pay a registration fee of RM150. However, with the collaboration with various government and non-government sectors, the registration fee will be waived until further notice.




9. Is there any allowances provided during the training and apprenticeship?
Answer:

Yes, an allowance is provided to the participants of the program. During the 3 months training program, an allowance of RM 500 will be provided. During the Apprenticeship program, the selected apprentice will be given allowance between RM 1,200 to RM 4,000 depending on the projects they are assigned to.




10. How long does it take to complete the training course?
Answer:
The SPIKE Training Program will take 3 months to complete. The training will involve classroom and practical training but more emphasis will be put in the practical training.


11. Do I need to buy any additional material before commencing the training (own laptop or software etc)?
Answer:

No, you do not have to buy any additional material before commencing the training program. The SPIKE training centers should accommodate the relevant tools for the training.




12. Will I get any certificate after the training?
Answer:

All successful candidates will be given a certificate after the 3 months Training Program as well as after the Apprentice Program. After the Apprentice program selected candidates will be given a chance to sit for Industrial certification such as Sun Certified AJAX Developer and SECURE2 – Security SavvyTM by Mile2, Asia Pacific.




13. When will the training start?
Answer:

The first batch of the training will commence on 1st of April 2007. The intakes will be on a quarterly basis. Participants will be notified from time to time on the schedule for the Competency Test and interview sessions.




14. What is the end result for me after the training program?
Answer:

The training program will take 3 months after which the participants will undergo an assessment and examination. Successful participants will advance to become SKALI’s Apprentice for a minimum of 12 months.




15. Where will the training be held?
Answer:

The training will be held at the respective SPIKE training centers throughout Malaysia. The Secretariat plans to establish a centre at each state to further facilitate the training to the participants. The program has currently 2 centers ie. Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu.




16. Am I guaranteed a job after the training?
Answer:

After the 3 months training, all participants will undergo an assessment and examination. Only successful participants will be given the opportunity to join the Apprenticeship Program for a minimum of 12 months.




17. Who will be my instructors/trainers
Answer:

The trainers will be representatives from the industry. Experienced trainers and instructors will be there throughout the training program to guide you in your training.




18. What is SPIKE@Terengganu and who should apply for this?
Answer:

SPIKE@Terengganu is a program in collaboration with the state of Terengganu. This program is part of the state government’s effort to develop the Specialized ICT and Skilled Human Resource of Terengganu. This program is fully sponsored by the state and only applicable to ‘Anak Terengganu’. An allowance of RM 600 will be given by the state of Terengganu during the 3 months training to the participants of the program. Interested participants will be required to register with the e-farm program at www.terengganu.gov.my. Further enquiries on SPIKE@Terengganu can be escalated to spike@skali.net or upmn@terengganu.gov.my.




19. I am really interested to join the program and I have submitted my online registration with SPIKE, However, I am currently undergoing the final year of my tertiary studies and will only complete in 6 months time, am I still eligible for the Program? Will I be entitled for the following batch?
Answer:

Yes, you are still eligible for the SPIKE program. You will be included in the batch subsequent to the completion of your tertiary studies.
